NGHS secures first place in the Languages for Life competition

Sriya Tatiparthi and Amba Gopie of 5S along with Krishi Agarwal of 5N took part in the Languages for Life competition. The group created and filmed a video showing their original approach to the topic and their efforts proved to be rewarding as they achieved 1st place in their
category of film and was awarded a prize of $1000 TT each.

Driven by their immense passion and enthusiasm for foreign languages, Amba, Krishi and Sriya scripted, filmed and edited the entire video in the span of a few days. They were eager to venture into this unfamiliar territory of making a short film where they were required to convey the link between language and entrepreneurship as well as the opportunities for business innovation that foreign language competency creates. They created a 4-minute skit depicting two candidates being interviewed for a job- one who spoke Spanish and one who could not. In the end, the one who spoke Spanish was selected for the job due to the wider range of opportunities that could be afforded to her.

Achieving first place was an euphoric moment for all three members who were grateful that their efforts and creativity were fruitful. Collaborating and conducting research for this competition cultivated a newfound appreciation for foreign languages in the business industry and motivated the language students to persevere in their academics.

Congratulations girls!
