NGHS students proudly represent in Chess competitions

21st Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Youth Chess Festival 2023
The 21st Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Youth Chess Festival 2023 was held from the 21st to 26th August 2023. Participants from the Caribbean gathered to compete at the Cascadia Hotel. The tournament hosted 230 players from 15 different countries: Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, Barbados, Cuba, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, Guyana, Suriname, The Bahamas, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Dominican Republic and Panama.

The overall standings were as follows:

1st place Jamaica (41 points)
2nd place Trinidad and Tobago (31 points)
3rd place Cuba (30 points)

Our students placed as follows:

Raquel Laing (Under 14 Female category) – 5th
Vandina Maharaj (Under 14 Female category) – 10th
Aradhana Ramnarine Singh (Under 16 Female category) – 5th
Kavira Singh (Under 16 Female category) – 10th
Cayleigh Manocha (Under 16 Female category) – 12th
Athena Martin (Under 18 Female category) – 8th

 

World Youth Under 16 Chess Olympiad 2023
Aradhana Ramnarine Singh was the top female chosen to represent Trinidad and Tobago in the World Youth Under 16 Chess Olympiad 2023 in Eindhoven Netherlands in August of this year.

 

National Secondary Schools Chess Championship 2023
The NGHS Chess team placed 6th in the National Secondary Schools Chess Championship. Thirty-eight secondary schools participated in this event with 201 players. This event took place on Saturday 7th October, 2023 at Presentation College, Chaguanas.

The team obtained a goal score of 19½ points with Kavira Singh emerging as 1st Best Female and Cayleigh Manocha placing 2nd Best Female. The entire team received medals as follows:
