Siri and Naomi shine at NALIS Competition

In March 2021, the National Library and Information System Authority (NALIS) invited students to participate in the Oral and Written Presentation Competition. Entrants were required to write an argumentative essay on preselected topics. Then successful applicants were shortlisted to create a video presentation illustrating aspects of the essay by using an expressive medium of their choice. Two of our students emerged as top contenders in this competition.

Naomi Lochan, a then Upper Six student, shared her perspective on vaccine hesitancy and mandatory vaccination. Her scholarly analysis on the issue helped her to cop 2nd place in the Senior Category (Form 6). In addition, Siri Vadlamudi, a Form 2 student at the time, placed 1st in the Junior Category (Form 1-3). She chose a monologue for her creative video piece as she debated the pros and cons of implementing mandatory COVID-19 vaccination.

On Thursday 9th December 2021, students were cordially invited to participate in the Prize Giving Ceremony. It was held at the National Library Building in Port of Spain. Siri shared with the audience that her experience and research helped her to develop a holistic perspective on the issue.  Students were awarded electronics, stationery and books sponsored by NALIS, Hodder Education and Dr. Michael Dowlath.

We wish to extend a hearty congratulations to our young writers and digital creators, Siri and Naomi on their fantastic achievement.
