International Chemistry Olympiad 2025; Dubai Here We Come!

For over half a century, the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) has been hosted throughout the world, engaging young brilliant minds in the art of Science. This year, the highly recognized event will be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with ninety countries participating.

The selection process in Trinidad and Tobago entails two rounds. Round one encourages students to challenge themselves in answering 60 multiple choice questions in 90 minutes. Forms 2 to 5 are placed in the Level A category and Form 6 students are placed in the Level B category. The top ten participants from each level then qualify for Round 2. Prior to this ultimate selection exam, students receive in depth training on fascinating topics of Organic and Physical Chemistry from esteemed professors of the University of the West Indies. Additionally, these sessions nurture the curiosity and analytical thinking required to solve IChO problems. Thus, with this extra preparation, students sit a three-hour long exam, where the top 4 students are selected to represent Trinidad and Tobago internationally.

Embracing her passion for Chemistry, Elizabeth Singh of Upper 6 has been selected to be a member of the Trinidad and Tobago National Team at the 57th IChO. Elizabeth is absolutely thrilled to gain this opportunity to not only showcase her talent, but also to represent her country, especially as Trinidad and Tobago is the only Caribbean country to participate in 2025. Furthermore, this is a particularly momentous occasion, as Elizabeth is part of the first T&T IChO team that consists of female students.

Elizabeth is extremely excited to experience this opportunity and make her school and country proud.

Congratulations to Elizabeth! Dubai…here we come!
