On Tuesday 15 th November, Asha Ramlal and Chrishel Williams of Upper 6
accompanied by Ms. Sahadeo attended a ceremony for the presentation of
credentials at President’s House. The Office of the President extended an invitation
to Naparima Girls’ High School as well as Presentation College to witness a
meeting between his Excellency Anthony Thomas Aquinas Carmona and the
newly appointed Ukranian Ambassador, Valeriy Chaly, to Trinidad and Tobago. At the function
both officials engaged in a discussion on various topics such as: the use of
renewable energy in the Ukraine and the way forward for smaller economies like
ours, with alternative energy sources such as solar, wind and hydro power. The
students were allowed to ask the Ambassador questions and it was an enjoyable
experience to witness the ‘ pomp and ceremony’ as he departed the President’s
House with the official soldiers on horseback and trumpet sounds. After the official
ceremony was over, the President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago
graciously interacted with students and discussed their future plans and even
shared some of his boy-hood stories from when he was a student at Presentation
College.
Certainly, it was a memorable visit and one which exposed the students to a high
level of diplomatic relations and will give them a clearer understanding of
international relations.
