Top places for students in COTE Essay Competition

Naparima Girls High School students Aasha Ramlal of U6B and Marie Samai of U6C have placed 1st and 3rd respectively in the COTE (Conference on the Economy) Essay Competition. The competition, which was open to all CAPE students, looked into the possible ways of diversifying the economy, specifically “The potential role of the agricultural sector as a means of diversification given the current economic climate of Trinidad and Tobago.” It required a 1000-1200 word essay on each student’s perspective, supported with facts garnered from Sociology, Economics and Caribbean Studies classes. The girls were encouraged to enter the competition by Ms Hyatali, as an opportunity to improve their writing skills and increase their knowledge. It indeed proved to be both an enriching and rewarding experience.
