During the 2025 July/August holidays, four of our 6th Form students completed the TATIL and Diabetes Association of Trinidad & Tobago (DATT’s) Sixth Form Internship Programme.
This prestigious internship, prides itself in its popularity, with almost 800 students competing for 37 coveted spots. The programme seeks to select the nation’s most diligent and intellectually driven sixth-form secondary students to act as youth ambassadors and advocates who aim to shine a light on all forms of diabetes. Interns had the privilege of attaining insight into not just the medical field, but discovered a wide spectrum of career paths while developing professional expertise.
For the duration of this programme, interns experienced firsthand the diverse facets of DATT’s operations while also visiting the University of the West Indies (UWI), Guardian Media Limited, and The President’s House, to name a few. Additionally, these interns engaged in an outreach event in Tobago where they advocated health awareness campaigns in the communities by conducting free blood glucose testing and blood pressure testing. Additionally, they coordinated fundraising group projects of a diabetic monofilament tester, blood glucose tablets and developed a diabetes eye disease awareness card to support 19-year-old Kristopher Mohammed, a former internship cohort, who was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma. On the 30th of August 2025, this programme was formally brought to a close with a graduation ceremony celebrating their diligence and commitment.
