Black History Month was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States. It honours all Black people from all periods of U.S. history, from the enslaved people first brought over from Africa in the early 17th century to African Americans living in the United States today.
This year, the N.G.H.S. African Cultural Club participated in this venture by hosting a door decorating competition. This competition provided opportunities for students to demonstrate their creativity by highlighting African culture and/or influential black figures in history. The initiative was coordinated by their patron teacher, Ms. Petra Greenidge.
