Ms. Monica Prayag joined the family of Naparima Girls’ High School as our Bursar in 1991 and the school was so much better off for having her dedicated service for those 19 years. Those of us who worked closely with her know that although officially employed in the office of the Bursar, Monica could be counted on to support the school in diverse ways – Bazaars, walkathons, Sports Days – you name it, she was there. She worked tirelessly, willingly and with enthusiasm; the word NO was not a part of her vocabulary.
Ms. Prayag was personable and enjoyed a good laugh. She had a wonderful sense of humour and it was always a true pleasure to be in her company. Her calm and unflappable manner were hallmarks of her nature which stood us all in good stead.
She loved plants and enjoyed overseeing the ground staff as she could advise and guide them in beautifying the school grounds. She could always be relied on to ensure that the cleaning staff had the school up to mark. So passionate was she about this, that even after she retired in December 2010, she maintained links with the school as the Managing Director of the company responsible for the cleaning of the school; a job she took very seriously as she supervised the many ladies under her charge.
One of her duties while at Naps, which became her pet project, was the overseeing of the School’s world famous Diamond Jubilee cookbook. She took great pride in ensuring the prompt reprinting, stocking and distribution in the face of the book’s tremendous demand.
On behalf of the Naparima Girls’ High School fraternity we say thank you to her for her devoted and unstinting service to our school and the church. We extend our deepest sympathy to her family and friends at this time. We have all been blessed to know Monica. May she rest in peace, safe in the arms of Jesus.
