National Technology Education Caravan 2018

National Technology Education Caravan 2018

Products designed and created by twenty-four (24) NGHS students were highlighted at the Ceremony for the National Technology Education Caravan 2018. They received an award for Outstanding Products for Challenge 2. Twenty-five (25) secondary schools around the country came together on Wednesday 27th June 2018 at the Rudranath Capildeo Learning Resource Centre, for this Ideas, Innovations and Inventions Program, hosted by the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Scotiabank.

NGHS participants, comprised of Form 3 students, that took part in the program and three products in particular caught the judges attention; all made with newspapers, as their main material. After extensive research and investigation, they designed and created a piñata, lantern and vase. They incorporated their various skills developed through school art sessions such as paper mache, papercrete art and recycled art.

A challenge trophy was awarded to the school and students displayed their work for viewing on the day. Other creative students’ products such as jewelry, fruit baskets, stationery caddies and jewelry boxes, impressed the judge at an earlier stage of the competition. Our win will hopefully encourage more students to attempt other types of challenges presented to them in future and stimulate creativity, efficient problem solving and effective team work skills.
