UVI Biology field trip to Mt. Hope Faculty Research Day

UVI Biology field trip to Mt. Hope Faculty Research Day

On Thursday 9th November 2017, members of the UVI Biology class attended the Mt. Hope
Medical Sciences Faculty Research Day. It was quite an interesting and informative time spent.
The first part of the day was spent listening to members of the various faculties of Medicine and Dentistry,
present findings of research work carried out in different areas, such as chronic kidney disease and diabetes, blood donation, COPD, the use of local plants in treatment of prostate cancer and the relationship between ethnicity and tooth structure.
The second part of the day, we were taken on a tour of the Vet School, where we saw preserved and bone specimens of animals, posters on various animal diseases, and gained information about taking care of large animals, aquaculture and hydroponics.
We were also treated to refreshments during the intermission. We had a wonderful experience and learnt much information. We would sincerely like to thank Ms Rhea Rambaran and all members of the Mt. Hope Faculty staff for being such wonderful hosts and inviting us to this event. They have certainly inspired us to pursue careers in medicine and related medical fields.
